Switzerland isn't just the land of precision watches and delicious chocolate – it's a wild symphony of natural wonders that will amaze you at every turn. During our journey, we explored the roaring Rhine Falls, climbed the steep cliffs of Ebenalp, walked on the glacier at Titlis, conquered the high mountain pass of Sustenpass, admired the turquoise Aare Gorge, experienced adrenaline on the Gelmerbahn cable car, and stood atop the Eggishorn.
If you're looking for inspiration for your next trip, these are places you definitely shouldn't miss. Let's take a closer look at them!
Rhine Falls
Our journey began at a massive, wild river thundering into the abyss with a deafening roar. This is exactly what we experienced during our visit to the Rhine Falls (Rheinfall), the largest in all of Europe.
First, a sightseeing boat took us right to the heart of this natural force. As we approached the falls, our hearts were pounding like bells. And then it happened – the boat plunged into the wild rapids, and we found ourselves directly under a spray of icy water. An adrenaline-filled experience par excellence.
Our next destination was the central rock cliff. We climbed to the viewing platform, and a breathtaking spectacle opened up before us in all its glory. Thousands of litters of water cascade over the edge every second, creating a rainbow and spraying in every direction. It was like standing right in the middle of a natural fountain.

After a fantastic experience, we took a break at a local restaurant with a view of the falls and visited the souvenir shop.
And for those seeking not just a bit of history, there's the nearby Wörth Water Castle. It is said that even the famous Goethe found inspiration here. Gothic vaults now frame an elegant restaurant, whose menu is a travel experience in itself. The charm of Swiss cuisine here blends with the passionate tones of the Mediterranean.

Mountain Restaurant Berggasthaus Aescher
Next, we headed to the famous mountain restaurant on Ebenalp mountain. The mountain hut Berggasthaus Aescher is literally wedged into the rock and is a place you have to experience for yourself.
Address: Aescher – Gasthaus am Berg, Weissbad
Our adventure began in the peaceful area of Wasserauen. From there, we took a cable car up to the heights and let ourselves be carried away by breathtaking panoramas. The subsequent walk to Aescher was an experience in itself. We passed through the mysterious Wildkirchli cave, where hermits used to hide in the past. An old shepherd's hut and an open-air chapel added a touch of spirituality to the whole place.
And we didn’t even have to be experienced mountaineers to enjoy this trip. The short and undemanding trail is manageable for absolutely everyone. Along the way, we also admired stunning views of Mount Säntis and other Alpine giants.

Mount Titlis
Switzerland without a glacier? It wouldn't be the same! Mount Titlis is a true jewel of the Uri Alps, and a visit to this icy kingdom is an experience for all the senses.
3,238 meters above sea level isn't just a number. It's a feeling that gets under your skin. When we boarded the Titlis Rotair cable car in the peaceful Engelberg, we had no idea how captivating this trip would be. The fully glassed cabin rotated slowly, offering us a view of the picturesque landscape of the Uri Alps unfolding beneath us. Every minute spent in the air was like turning the pages of a picture book of nature.
And the best was yet to come. Even on the hottest summer days, we felt like we were in a winter paradise at the summit of Titlis. Snowy plains glistened in the sun's rays, and we couldn't wait to explore everything this snowy world had to offer.
Imagine walking through a tunnel carved into eternal ice, 150 meters long and 10 meters deep. And this isn't just any ordinary ice. We touched a mass that has been lying here for 5,000 years. The Titlisgletscher revealed its secrets to us. The muted turquoise light and the air filled with a fine mist created an atmosphere in the glacier cave as if we had entered another world.

- View from the suspension bridge
Another adventure we simply couldn't miss was walking along the mountain cliff over an icy abyss on Europe's highest suspension bridge. It stretches 100 meters long and sits at an altitude of 3,041 meters above sea level. The Titlis Cliff Walk offered us an unforgettable experience. With every step, we felt our hearts pounding and our adrenaline pumping at full throttle. But at the same time, we were utterly captivated by the majestic nature surrounding us.
The bridge led us to the upper station of the Ice Flyer glacier lift. This open-chair cable car then took us even higher. We soared above the glacier, surrounded by a dazzling white landscape and turquoise ice crevasses. And when we reached the glacier park, we couldn’t resist tubing down an ice slide on a snow tube—an inflatable ring that sent us whizzing downhill.
But Titlis isn’t just about adrenaline-pumping experiences. At the summit, you’ll find cozy restaurants where you can enjoy something delicious, souvenir shops to bring a piece of this magical place home with you, and even accommodation for those who want to fully immerse themselves in the Alpine atmosphere.
And did you know that Titlis is also a popular destination among Indian tourists? Yes, you read that right! Some famous Bollywood films were shot here when filming in the Himalayas was prohibited.

High Mountain Pass Sustenpass
Our journey continued through the most beautiful Swiss high mountain pass, Sustenpass. This pass connecting Wassen and Innertkirchen captivated us with its wild beauty. At 2,224 meters above sea level, we felt like we were on top of the world. The views of the snow-capped mountain peaks, including the imposing Fünffingerstöck, were simply breathtaking. A unique experience was also driving through the 300-meter-long tunnel running directly beneath the massif.
Aare Gorge
At the foot of the Grimsel and Susten passes, we found ourselves in awe of the Aare Gorge (Aareschlucht). Imagine a 1,400-meter-long and 200-meter-deep canyon that narrows to just one meter at its tightest point. It’s hard to believe that this imposing chasm was carved by the Aare River over countless years.
Armed with courage and cameras, we embarked on an adventurous expedition. The path along footbridges and tunnels was safe, but adrenaline was certainly not lacking. In less than an hour, we conquered this natural barrier and found ourselves on the other side.

Our tip:
The Meiringen-Innertkirchen Railway offers the option to return by train on a route running parallel to the gorge, allowing you to enjoy the spectacle from a different perspective. Additionally, this journey is already included in the price of admission.
Gelmerbahn Funicular
We experienced an adrenaline-pumping mountain ride without tracks on the Gelmerbahn funicular. With an incredible gradient of 106%, this cable railway is rightly considered the steepest open funicular for passenger transport in Europe.
Our adventure began modestly. We boarded the red carriage and slowly began ascending the steep slope. Our hearts beat a little faster with every meter we moved away from the valley.
At an altitude of 1,860 meters above sea level, a breathtaking view of the snow-capped peaks of the Bernese Alps opened up before us. Afterwards, we embarked on a short walk to the turquoise waters of the Gelmer Mountain Lake. The crystal-clear water invited us to refresh ourselves, and the surrounding mountains created a perfect backdrop for our photos.
We returned to the valley via the funicular once again. This time, however, it was quite a ride. The descent was so steep that we felt like we were falling down. The adrenaline rushed to our heads, and we couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces.
The ride on the Gelmerbahn funicular was an unforgettable experience. The combination of adrenaline, stunning nature, and unique technology makes it one of Switzerland's most fascinating attractions.

Our recommendation:

Handeckfallbrücke Suspension Bridge
Imagine standing on a bridge suspended 70 meters above the wild mountain river, the Aare. A deep canyon stretches out below you, and imposing alpine peaks rise around you. This is the experience awaiting you at the Handeckfallbrücke, a suspension bridge located directly opposite the lower station of the Gelmerbahn funicular.
We set out from the Gelmerbahn parking lot and, after a pleasant walk of about one kilometre, found ourselves at this breathtaking spot. The 70-meter-long bridge swayed gently beneath our feet, offering us unique views of the surrounding nature.
Summit Eggishorn
We capped off our journey with an unforgettable view. From the picturesque town of Fiesch, we took a cable car up to the imposing Eggishorn, which rises to an elevation of 2,934 meters. We were greeted by a realm of eternal ice and panoramas that completely captivated us.
From this height, we were treated to a breathtaking view of the largest alpine glacier, the Aletsch Glacier. This giant contains an incredible 4% of Europe's fresh water. It felt like standing on the roof of a gigantic refrigerator. And that wasn’t all. At the same time, we also saw the majestic Jungfraujoch, the terminal station of the highest railway on the old continent.
This entire natural spectacle is so exceptional that it has earned a place on the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List. And we were lucky enough to be right in the middle of it all.
Address: Fieschertalstrasse 1, Fiesch
Where to park?
If you plan to go by car, you can park directly in the car park in Fiesch. And the best part? It's just a pleasant 100-meter walk to the Fiesch transport hub, where it all begins.
