Prachov Rocks
This fascinating rock labyrinth is one of the most beautiful places in Bohemian Paradise. Whether you are a passionate hiker, a rock climber, or just looking for breathtaking views, an unforgettable experience awaits you here.
Prachov Rocks look like they have been taken straight out of a fairy tale—dozens of majestic sandstone towers, some up to 40 meters high, create a maze of trails, passageways and viewpoints.
Did you know that this natural wonder belongs to the Schlik family? Yes, Prachov Rocks are not just a "public" park—they are a private heritage.
For visitors, there are three marked trails, which lead through the most interesting corners. Which route should you choose?
Yellow trail (1.5 km) – short but full of scenic viewpoints.
Red trail (2.5 km) – for adventurers who want to see as much as possible.
Green trail (3.5 km) – a longer walk with interesting rock formations.

Our tip:
If you are heading out with a stroller (ideally a sporty one), we recommend the new Pelíšek Children's Nature Trail, which delights little explorers. The route starts at the Tourist Information Centre, leading you past the picturesque Pelíšek Reservoir and back along a magical path near the Tea Gazebo. The entire trail is just 1 km long, so even the youngest can manage it, and thanks to the interactive elements and points of interest along the way, it will captivate you for a full 90 minutes.
Information centre address: Horní Lochov 43, Holín-Jičín
The most famous panoramas are offered by Bohemian Paradise Lookout, where you will see the iconic rock towers—Prachov Needle and Prachov Cap. It is like standing on top of the world, surrounded by a sea of greenery and sandstone giants.
Walk through the Emperor’s Pass, a narrow gorge where the rock walls almost touch, or discover the mysterious American Cave, which once served as a hideout for locals. Each of these places has its own story and atmosphere that will transport you to the past.
And if you are drawn to mysteries, head to the remains of Pařez Rock Castle, carved directly into the sandstone.
Castle address: Pařezská Lhota 64, Holín-Jičín
Admission to the trails is paid, but no prior booking is needed. And beware – the ticket is valid all day, so you can hop between the trails, take a lunch break and then calmly return to the rocks.
For visitors' greater comfort, composting toilets have been added in two locations. The first is 300 meters from the parking lot in Prachov, near Pod Brankou, and the second one is at the popular crossroads U Buku. Thanks to this, you no longer have to worry about longer trips – rest and comfort are guaranteed.
And good news for dog owners: your four-legged companions are welcome. Just do not forget the leash.

When to go exploring the rocks?
In spring and autumn, when you will meet only a handful of visitors and the rocks come alive with the quiet whisper of the wind. In summer, we recommend heading out at dawn—once you are standing at a lookout with morning mist in the valley, you will understand why the early wake-up call is worth it.
Our recommendation:
Take your time. Here, among the sandstone towers, time flows differently—more slowly, in harmony with the rustling forest and birdsong. The Prachov Rocks are not just a tourist stop; they are a living adventure. And to make sure you do not miss the magic of the narrow passages or the mystery of the viewpoints, set aside a full day. It is worth it.
Kost Castle
In the forests of the Bohemian Paradise, atop a massive sandstone promontory, stands one of the best-preserved Gothic castles in Bohemia—the majestic Kost Castle. Its silhouette, dominated by the White Tower, will captivate you instantly.
Its origins date back to the 13th century when a sturdy stone tower was built here, strong enough to withstand even the Hussite raids.
Legend has it that the castle got its name from its toughness (“kost" means "bone" in English)—it was said to be so solid that "not even the tooth of time could chew through it." In reality, the name comes from its first documented owner, Beneš of Costa—meaning "of the fortress."
Over time, the fortress grew into a castle, though it brought bad luck to its heirs —families came and went, male lines died out and the estate passed from hand to hand. Even Albrecht von Wallenstein wanted to rebuild Kost, but before he could take any action, he was assassinated.
After the 1989 revolution, the property was returned to aristocratic hands— the Kinský dal Borgo family.

Castle Palaces: Immerse yourself in the stories of the noble Kinský family. Explore the lavish palaces, an armoury filled with historical weapons and a mysterious black kitchen. Walk through all the courtyards and the chapel—every corner breathes timeless elegance.

Entire Castle (Combined Tour): Want to see it all? This tour takes you through the entire castle—from the torture chamber to the palaces and even Saint Anne’s Chapel. Be warned: the route is more demanding and may tire out small children.

Trosky Castle
In the heart of Bohemian Paradise, the mystical Trosky Castle rises with its two noble towers, Baba and Panna.
Beneath the castle’s surface, mysterious tunnels stretch out—reportedly built by its founder, Čeněk of Vartenberk, as an escape route during sieges. Just 500 meters from the castle lies the entrance to this underground labyrinth.
Inside, traces of past visitors can still be found, including a "signature rock" with carved names. In 1859, four students squeezed through a narrow crevice into a vast cave, where they even discovered a small lake—possibly a water reservoir for the castle. To this day, whispers persist of treasures hidden in the darkness, loot from robber knights, or lost entrances still waiting to be discovered.

The castle’s founder was financially ruined by its construction, so King Wenceslas IV soon acquired it. During the Hussite Wars, Trosky became a stronghold for the Catholics and even withstood the armies of Jan Žižka. Afterward, owners changed hands like a revolving door—until its downfall came: Swedish plundering, decay and oblivion.
Salvation arrived with the Romantics of the 19th century—the Aehrenthal family transformed Trosky into a tourist magnet. They created trails, tended to the landscape and opened the ruins to the world. Today, the castle belongs to the state, but its magic remains.
When you climb up the Baba Tower, a breathtaking view unfolds before you: the Bohemian Central Highlands, the Lusatian and Jizera Mountains, and even the Giant Mountains. Prepare for an experience that will lift you above the everyday.
And what is more, the castle ruins have even conquered the silver screen! They appeared in the fairy-tale classic Prince and the Evening Star, where Prince Velen duels the dark sorcerer Mrakomor.

The best option is the paid parking lot Trosky—from there, it’s about a 10-minute walk up to the foot of the iconic castle.

Staré Hrady Castle and Chateau
This complex combines a 14th-century medieval castle with a Renaissance chateau, where the famous military leader Albrecht von Wallenstein once stayed. After his death, the estate fell into disrepair and was nearly bulldozed—until a local teacher saved it. Today, it is owned by enthusiasts who have breathed new life into the place.
Staré Hrady offers fairy-tale tours with dragons and knights, as well as an entertaining journey through an enchanted cellar full of light and sound effects—perfect for little adventurers. During summer vacations, juggling performances and other events take place here.
However, if you are a passionate history lover, you might be slightly disappointed. The authentic medieval charm is sometimes overshadowed by modern alterations (yes, even concrete has made an appearance here). And the furnishings? More like a random mix than a faithful reconstruction of the past.
